—These poems are written with all of Blake's cynically tolerant understanding; that understanding which ever refused to consider anything as evil. This volume is representative of the brilliance of line and felicity of wit which have made Blake unique and have given him such a high rank among English poets.
-William Blake was an English poet, painter, printmaker, and engraver who is considered a key figure in Romanticism. A nonconformist and radical thinker, Blake prioritized imagination over reason in his work, believing ideal forms should come from inner visions, not nature. He developed a relief etching technique in 1788 that allowed him to combine text and illustrations on the same page, and he printed his own works with the help of his wife Catherine.
